UKRAINE CRISIS: THE DONBASS WAR

The Euromaidan protests have driven President Yanukovych from power. A new, pro-Western government plans to move Ukraine closer to the EU and away from Russia. This reorientation is unacceptable to Moscow and many ethnic Russians living in the Eastern Ukrainian region of the Donbass. The Russians are happy to send troops and arms to fuel a growing rebellion. The West is still weighing its options.
